Illusory Nature of Memory

"Memory is an illusion; it's all gone. Everything that makes an impression on you is no longer there. There is only the eternal now, ever fleeting, ever real, revealing the illusions of our past."

This project visualizes memories that are fading but still present. What we remember is fluid, constantly shaped by our emotions, experiences, and the passage of time, shifting in our minds. Some memories fade, while others remain sharper. These illustrations remind us that even as details slip away, memories leave their mark, connecting the past into the present.

These artworks combine personal photos from my last trip with friends, edited and enhanced in Photoshop, with AI-generated imagery created using MidJourney.

The intricate, web-like networks seen in the illustrations are inspired by the natural patterns found in root systems.

Nets symbolize the complex and often tangled nature of thoughts, capturing how memories can get caught and distorted within the mind's web, sometimes blurring the boundaries between reality and perception.

Trapped In Thoughts

I started questioning my limitations, the invisible boundaries I wrap around myself. One day, I took a photo of my reflection in the mirror, but when I looked at it, I didn’t see myself as I usually did. Instead, I saw myself caught in pieces that reminded me of my thoughts and memories, surrounding me, filling me. I asked myself: Why does this daydreaming feel like being trapped?

It’s all too familiar; feeling confined within my own mind, surrounded by fragments of thoughts. I picture myself tangled in their delicate strings, struggling to see clearly through the haze. Each thought shifts with time, yet somehow, they trap me as if they’re the only truths I know. They become both a place to hide... and a place to be found.

This project is my attempt to capture that feeling; the sensation of being both present and absent, trapped in thoughts, yet still here.

Window

Conceptual Installation

In my mind, there is a window. It has no real shape; it’s everything I’ve ever felt about freedom, about escape. This window isn’t just a memory; it’s a memory of a memory, an echo of something almost beyond reach—something real but intangible, like a distant light from another time. It’s more than a memory; it’s the feeling of what childhood represented:

the purity of hope itself.

This window is one every child notices, even if it’s always just out of reach. It’s where the world stretches beyond what they know. It holds the quiet safety of imagination and the first spark of hope, a place where reality dissolves into unhappened memories and the infinite possibilities of 'what could be,' now held as a memory.
